The Artivists are staging their original production about the business of birthing in the U.S. Medical System today, calling out the systemic oppression causing the mortality rate among Black mothers and birthing people of color to rise.
Our next production will be held in-person, on stage, with a live audience as well as a live virtual audience from April 27th – 29th, 2023.
We are in a maternal health crisis in the United States. Our country has the highest rates of maternal mortality in the industrialized world. Women are twice as likely to die from complications of pregnancy or childbirth in the U.S. than in Canada or the United Kingdom. For Black women, especially, the risk is infuriatingly, heartbreakingly, unforgivably high. Three to Four times higher than white women. 80% of these deaths are preventable. This is the crisis.
This production will highlight original birth stories and true experiences with discrimination in the hospital system, featuring prominent voices from the reproductive justice movement.
This production is produced and cast entirely with volunteers, as are all the roles of the 4thU Artivists.
